New Era supported Cricket Australia and Harrup Park throughout Mackay's first men's Test, delivering live event cleaning and waste services across Great Barrier Reef Arena.

New Era Facility Services has supported Cricket Australia and Harrup Park through Mackay’s first men’s Test match, delivering cleaning and on-site waste services throughout the Australia v Bangladesh Test at Great Barrier Reef Arena.

The event formed part of New Era’s broader relationship with Harrup Park, where our local team also provides ongoing daily cleaning across the club facilities.

For the Test, that existing local operation scaled considerably. Between 16 and 22 New Era cleaners were on site at any one time, with staffing adjusted throughout the event around spectator movements, peak periods and the requirements of the venue.

Our teams supported pre-event preparation, cleaning before gates opened, continuous servicing throughout live play, daily resets and the post-event clean following the conclusion of the Test.

The Test concluded on day two, with our team then moving directly into the post-event clean and venue reset.

Cleaning before, during and after play

Supporting a live Test match required our teams to work around spectators, players, officials and venue operations throughout the day.

Our cleaners were on site before gates opened, preparing key areas across the precinct before spectators and event personnel arrived.

As crowds entered the venue and play commenced, staffing was adjusted across the site to match the changing requirements of the event. At peak periods, up to 22 New Era cleaners were operating across the venue at the same time, supported by dedicated supervision and working alongside Cricket Australia and Harrup Park’s event teams.

The service covered the key areas required to keep the venue operating throughout the event, including:

  • grandstands and spectator areas
  • public toilets and amenities
  • player and official facilities
  • media and operational support areas
  • surrounding venue presentation areas
  • ongoing bin servicing and waste collection

Amenities and high traffic areas were attended to throughout each day, while the wider venue was continually maintained as spectators moved through the precinct.

Waste services throughout the event

Waste servicing operated continuously alongside the cleaning programme, with staffing changing throughout the day as spectator areas became busier.

New Era teams collected waste from across the serviced areas, relined bins as required and transferred collected waste to the venue’s designated waste compound.

The waste operation ran alongside the wider cleaning service, allowing our supervisors to maintain visibility across venue presentation, amenities and waste servicing throughout the event.

For a live sporting venue, this work needs to happen continuously. Waste cannot simply be left until spectators have gone home, particularly across high traffic areas during play.

Our team remained active throughout the event to keep these areas moving and maintain presentation across the precinct.

An established local team, scaled for Test cricket

New Era already has an established operation at Harrup Park through our ongoing daily service across the club facilities.

For the Test, that local structure became the foundation for a considerably larger event team.

Additional cleaners were brought into the operation, staffing was adjusted around the event schedule and our supervisors remained connected with Cricket Australia and Harrup Park’s event teams throughout the Test.

Having people who already understood the precinct meant the event operation could scale without losing the local knowledge and management accountability already in place.

Part of our ongoing partnership with Harrup Park

The Test was an extension of New Era’s broader relationship with Harrup Park, where our local team provides ongoing daily cleaning across the club facilities.

Working within the precinct throughout normal operations gives our team a detailed understanding of the venue and the people responsible for running it.

For major events such as the Australia v Bangladesh Test, that established operation can scale quickly around the requirements of Cricket Australia, Harrup Park and the event itself, while retaining the same local management structure.

We are proud of the team who delivered the service throughout Mackay’s first Test and look forward to continuing our work with Harrup Park and supporting more major sporting events at the precinct in the years ahead.

Event services built around the venue

Every major event has a different operating plan.

New Era supports sporting events, festivals and major venues with cleaning and waste services that can scale across pre-event preparation, live event operations and post-event requirements.

Our event teams work alongside venue management to structure staffing, service zones and cleaning requirements around the way each event actually operates.
